Summary/Objective
The Construction Crew Leader plays an essential role in building homes and leading groups of skilled and unskilled volunteers and homeowner candidates in construction tasks. This position ensures the safety and efficiency of the work environment while developing and improving volunteer management and construction skills. The role involves hands-on work across various phases of the construction process, from start to finish, including rehabilitation and renovation work as needed.

Key Responsibilities
Construction Tasks:
  • Perform hands-on tasks in all aspects of construction, such as demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry, and landscaping.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by conducting safety training for each volunteer crew.
  • Prepare and maintain tools, materials, and task lists for each workday.
  • Supervise task leaders and volunteers to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and accurately.
  • Report daily progress to the Senior Field Supervisor and House Lead Supervisor.
  • Secure the job site at the end of each workday and ensure that finished products meet quality standards.
Safety & Training:
  • Maintain site safety by adhering to construction safety policies and modeling best practices.
  • Provide training and guidance to volunteers, focusing on safe work procedures and efficient task completion.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Attend and participate in required company meetings and special event preparations.
  • Assist in preparations for special events.
  • Perform other duties as delegated by supervisors.

Required Skills & Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Experience in residential construction is preferred.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and guide semi-skilled and unskilled volunteers.
  • Clear understanding of the company’s mission and a willingness to advocate for it.
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; higher education is preferred.
Licensure & Certification:
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record with reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and sexual offender check.
Skills:
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with staff, volunteers, subcontractors, and municipal inspectors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and PROCORE.
Language:
  • Ability to speak English fluently and write clearly. Bilingual (English and another language) is a plus but not required.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Physical Demands:
  • Regularly required to lift and move 50+ pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Ability to work in various physical conditions, including outdoor work in various weather conditions.
Work Environment:
  • Construction environment, which may involve exposure to weather conditions.
  • Flexibility is required for evening meetings and special events.
  • Occasional weekend work may be required.
