Position Summary
The Paint Assistant supports the paint department by preparing aircraft parts and materials for painting operations while ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. This role assists Painters with daily operations, maintains a clean and organized work environment, and safely handles hazardous materials in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Painters in daily activities not involving the actual spraying of paint.
- Prepare aircraft parts and components for painting through hand sanding, masking, and solvent cleaning processes.
- Mix a variety of chromated and non-chromated primers and topcoats according to specifications and work instructions.
- Lay out, position, and maneuver parts to facilitate efficient and accurate paint application.
- Complete work orders and required documentation throughout the paint process.
- Accurately process and maintain oven charts, temperature logs, and related documentation.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the paint shop, including sweeping and general housekeeping duties.
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks, gloves, and protective clothing.
- Handle, store, and dispose of hazardous materials in compliance with company procedures and state and federal environmental regulations.
- Set up, label, and maintain cubic yard hazardous waste storage boxes and related waste management areas.
- Support continuous improvement and maintain compliance with quality and environmental standards.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in manufacturing, aerospace, automotive paint, or industrial painting environment preferred.
- Ability to follow written instructions, work orders, and safety procedures.
- Basic understanding of paint preparation techniques and material handling.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, sanding equipment, and cleaning solvents.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Good communication and time management skills.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of hazardous material handling and environmental safety regulations.
- Familiarity with aerospace coatings, primers, and paint processes.
- Experience maintaining production and quality documentation.
- Forklift or material handling experience is a plus.
Work Environment
- Industrial paint shop and manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to paints, solvents, fumes, and chemicals while using required PPE.
- Requires standing, bending, lifting, and moving parts throughout the shift.
